Happy 2008 to you all. I hope this year brings you much love, laughter and good health.
Last night the old man and I didn't go out. Instead we passed the torch to our little one. She went out to a party with her girlfriend at the aquarium from 6 to 11 where they had a kid's party including an apple juice toast at 9:00. Kenny and I sat at home watching the window for the car to pull up at 11:30 to drop her off. My excuse for watching the window like a hawk was that I was sure she'd be long asleep and I'd have to carry her in, but I think Kenny was practicing for the teenage years. We were 2 old dorks waiting up for their little girl to come home.
The stamina of a 6 year old is amazing. She came home at 11:30 and for the first time stayed up with us to watch the ball drop on Dick Clark's Rockin Eve at midnight. We shared kisses, hugs and 'happy new year's. It was really rather sweet. Prompty at 12:01, with sleepy eyes she sauntered off to bed.
They say the person you kiss at the stroke of 12 is the person you'll kiss all year long. I'd be more than happy about that.

Call me a sentimental fool. I was poking around looking for something on my computer earlier and I got off on a tangent browsing through photo folders. You know how that is right? I came across a folder of pictures from Wyoming, most of which I never posted. There are a bajillion in there. Now that i'm getting nostalic, maybe i'll get around to it.
I found this one from outside of Cody, Wyoming as we were heading towards the Cheif Joseph Highway. The night before we saw on the news that the Beartooth Pass was closed due to mudslides, so we were taking the Cheif Joseph to Yellowstone instead. It proved to be an increadibly memorable ride through snow and ice. One i will never forget.
Looking at this picture now is like looking at another person. I know that is me there, but yet it is like some far off place that I think I've imagined. Maybe its time for another big trip, you think?

We went in for the opening day of the Cycle World bikeshow in NYC today. The family was all off from work and school so we figured sneaking in on Friday at opening time would allow our daughter to enjoy the show without being sandwiched between all the patrons at face to butt level. Its tough being 6 in a big crowd. It proved to be a good call. We were able to get up close to see everything we wanted to look at.
That being said, I don't know if its me or what but it was a bit of a snoozefest. There wasn't anything really wow! exciting there. I think back a decade ago and the bikeshow was something I looked forward to, was excited by. Now i think I just go out of tradition. Maybe now with information so readily available at every turn on the web, you've seen everything a million times over by the time you walk through the show doors. I dunno. For me the most interesting bikes were some of the customs and the vintage displays.
