A red star, some watermelon seeds, and why the hell is this on a motorcycle blog?

Sentimentality!
Posted By CrudMop 11:12:26 AM

A very good friend of mine here in the UK said on Monday, while we were out for a ride "We live our lives looking through glass...We get up in the morning and check out the day through a pane of glass....We drive to work in our cars and look at the road ahead & other commuters through more glass....and then we sit in our offices, gazing out...wishing we were elsewhere...through glass. Riding motorcycles gets us out of our glass prisons & gives us pure, unobscured freedom!"....Those weren't his exact words...but you get the gist of it!

Fuzz says motorcycles have enriched her life...well that counts for me too! ;o)

4 years ago riding a motorcycle was just a teenage ambition that looked like it was never going to be fulfilled...and now...here I am...with a beautiful bike, amazing friends...Fuzz & Crudmop, Sheila & the Valley Lynx MCC crew here in Wales...and an absolute love of life!

  • Every ride is an adventure...a story to tell.
  • Every person I meet is an individual character...who just happens to share a passion for bikes.
  • Bad days become good just by flicking through my photo albums...We live in an ever changing world...you can never have too many photos...they're our legacy.
  • Dreams have become memories.
  • Work becomes just something to fill the winter months and something that gets in the way of riding during the spring / summer.
  • I've discovered roads I would never have traversed in the car and with them the real beauty of my home country (Wales)
  • I've discovered "grin factor"
  • I've discovered that I've got a really shite singing voice :o{)   (...you guys know what I mean! Bacon, Bacon...)
  • I've got a great excuse to hang out in leather...it sure makes up for all the bad hair days!
  • I've just returned from a long weekend in France for the Le Mans 24 Hour bike racing event...an experience I want to re-live again and again! AWESOME!

AND

  • I'm soon to be riding around New York State! WooHoo!.... Me!... A little (well...medium-sized) Welsh peasant-girl seeing, first hand, everything I've ever seen in the movies and much, much more besides. AMAZING!

I'm grateful I can now look back on my life in years to come and say that I did something amazing with it! Motorcycles have enriched our lives?....I guess so! ;o))

Ride log? Nahhhh...
Posted By CrudMop 2:07:58 PM

I was going to do a ride log for yesterday, then I decided against it.

We had a great trip up to the Diner on 22, then to the dairy (met fuzz's friend Chris), over to Perkins, then the traffic circle.  It was a beautiful day.

I think I would like to log something a bit more important tho.  Something Fuzzy and I were talking about in the diner.   Pardon me while I get mushy.

Riding is pretty amazing - it allows you connections and opportunities to meet people you would otherwise NEVER meet.  And yet, the friendships I have made are more important to me than those I spent years building in the past.  Maybe it's because it is such a passion for us, something so close to our hearts that when shared, immediately bonds us together.  Maybe its the immediate trust that must be had to operate something so dangerous in such close proximity with others.  Or maybe we were lucky to find each other.

What I do know - is that I am pretty lucky to have met these folks.  They really bring me joy, and it is great to share something so great with people who make the experience that much better.  Who else could make sitting on a picnic bench watching the world go by something I miss. :)

Fuzz, Myko - I love you guys!

Rainy Saturday
Posted By CrudMop 1:56:20 PM

Just lookin out the window, watchin the rain fall.  These days are so mellow, so lazy.  Had to go to college point today to swap out my ezpass - decided to take a quick shot of the Whitestone bridge in the rain.

Clients... Ugh
Posted By CrudMop 5:49:52 PM

Went to see a client today - who called me to come troubleshoot a hardware installation, of which I have no expertise or knowledge.  Ahh how I love these visits.

An hour after I get there, check in, find the client, finally get into the server room -  I immediately realize they have entered their gateway in incorrectly. I change the gateway address, and voila, everthing works.  Now I have to wait for 45 minutes for the folks in California to come back from lunch to test their connection.  Don't wait for lunch on my behalf, just make me wait.  It's ok.

I know I bill for this.  I know I am working, and it shouldn't matter what I am doing if I am being paid.  But honestly, when I have to drive to a client, deal with security and getting vistors badges and whatnot, to walk across the entire facility, jump through hoops, say the password, learn the secret handshake, do three pirouettes, with one baby zebra, to find out that the installer incorrectly entered a facking address, I am pissed.  This isn't even my job.  I just get stuck doing it because I have a technical and networking background.

I have less of a problem doing it if there is a legitimate failure. But typos, man, that is just shite.
